Frequently Asked Questions

How do I care for my new concrete or 3D printed item?

For cleaning, please use a soft damp cloth. Mild detergents only if necessary. Never use any abrasives.

Please avoid dropping or hitting the item. Concrete is strong, but can break under stress.

My new object has cracks, chips, or doesn’t look exactly like the photo? Why does it take so long?

The beauty and uniqueness of each piece is a direct result of its flaws. Each concrete mix is tailored to the shape and form of the item, and leaves an imprint of the process in the casting. Bubbles, flow marks, mold lines, fingerprints, material segregation, and machine marks are all embedded into the design and fabrication of my entire line. I am not an assembly line.

Every item is crafted over several weeks, little by little as the concrete cures and allows me to move to the next step. Each piece is checked on numerous times a day, intimately watched and babied as I obsess over its growth.

Each piece is made by hand, and the materials react to conditions such as the weather, the temperature and humidity in my workshop, how old the piece is and where it is at in the curing process. Even subtle differences in my speed or how I turn the piece while I work will show in the final outcome.

Taken from Wikipedia on the subject of Wabi-Sabi":

“Characteristics of wabi-sabi aesthetics and principles include asymmetry, roughness, simplicity, economy, austerity, modesty, intimacy, and the appreciation of both natural objects and the forces of nature..”

Is my item okay to use outside?

Every concrete piece has been sealed against moisture and is safe outside. Freezing conditions may cause cracks or fractures. Extreme temperatures and conditions should be avoided. Color tones will change depending on moisture and temperature.

Electrical components should not be used outside or in damp locations, unless specifically marked and rated for use in damp locations. See item documentation for more information.
